First of all, I wasn’t exposed to Wipeout games in any way, I just knew about these games when I downloaded the demo at the PSN store, after a couple of months of having the demo sitting there and reading the raving reviews about this game I decided to purchased.
AND WHAT I WAS MISSING!
This game is awesome! Im not too much into electronica music, but the music in this game is perfect 5.1 surround goodness, I had found myself just listening to the tunes in the after race (photoshoot) for even longer than what the race took.
Same happens to the graphics, this is 1080p full HD we are talking about here, everything looks pristine, flawless colors, textures, the backgrounds and the tracks are all beautifully designed.
Gameplay and controls are just smooth, difficulty is adjustable, if you happen to just love heavy metal while racing, you can add custom soundtrack to the mix.
I haven’t tried the online features yet, because I just cant stop playing this game campaign, I purchased this in a bundle with the FURY expansion which I have read that adds like 80 more races (this is almost as long as the orginal game).
The expansion adds new game features, new tracks, soundtrack and ships, you can read in other reviews about game modes that I will not explain here since I think its just irrelevant, take my word, this game is a masterpiece.
At $24.99 (HD and FURY bundle) this game its just the best deal at the PSN store, if you happen to enjoy video games, do yourself a favor, go a purchase this game right now.

This is a terrific game.
Graphically, it’s very impressive. Lots of color and crystal clear graphics, and the vehicles and tracks have an amazing level of detail and creativity. There is a special mode where you have to survive a constant acceleration through a track, where the track’s colors are a graphic equalizer… it’s stunning to look at.
This game plays very well. The game can be very challenging… but an update added a special easy mode, that makes the game welcoming for guests and novice players. The beauty and excitement of the game makes this one of the most likely games to put on when I have family visiting, but this game also accommodates a player who needs an intense challenge. Kids and non-gamers love this game, which shocked me because I consider this to be a game that rewards practice.
You have a variety of game modes. There are campaigns where you build points along several races, single races, and a few time trial modes. All are implemented in a way that’s interesting. The classic races, where you use weapons and speed boosts while competing with other racers online or with AI, is polished and suspenseful.
If you like Wipeout… this will not let you down. This game has a lot of the content of a PSP Wipeout game, but this is no port… it’s at the very highest level of graphical and technological sophistication as a PS3 game. There are some games you just have to own if you have a PS3. This is a steal at $20!

Simply the best futuristic racing game on any system. Wipeout HD runs at 60 frames per second at 1080p lines of resolution, and it really shows. The art direction is as good as we have come to expect from other games in this long-running series, but now you can see all the little spinning bits of the ships in mindblowing detail. The game is fast and fun, offering a healthy challenge but not too difficult for a newbie to get into.

By now most everyone who plays video games is aware of the Wipeout series on the Sony Playstation family of consoles and handhelds. It’s a futuristic racer where the “cars” are ships and no rubber meets the road here. Instead the ships float precariously over the surface of the track and weapons play as much a part of the racing as does maintaining a clean racing line.
Wipeout HD is the cumulation of years of refinement over 3 console generations. The controls, handling, graphics, music and speed are all supremely tuned and refined to near perfection. Wipeout HD is smooth, running at 60 frames-per-second at a full 1080p. The tracks and ships sport and almost unbelievable amount of detail – down to individual rivets on the hull of the ships. But don’t worry about the details, most of it will go flying by in a blur as your speed down the track.
The game features 5 different game modes: Single Race, Time Trials, Tournament, Zone, and Speed Lap. The objective in most simple revolves around finishing 1st on the podium. How you get there is the interesting part. Simply following a clean line is never enough. Along the way you’ll need to steer your ship over various speed booster pads and weapon pick up points. Weapons vary from unguided rockets to homing missiles to speed boosts and even more devastating and creative weapons. The rub of course is that your adversaries have the same access to these powerful and devastating weapons. Zones Mode is entirely different. You’re alone on the track in a heavily armored ship speeding down the track. As you complete checkpoints and laps each subsequent lap is faster and faster. The goal is to reach the highest level zone possible. As simple as it sounds it’s not. Zones is as challenging as it is unique. The tracks in Zones take on a hyper-colored, hypnotic tone where the color of the tracks and backgrounds change and morph to the tune of the game music. Very cool and very unique.
Speaking of music, the in-game tracks are a collection of techno inspired beats that fit the look of this futuristic racer perfectly. Though I’m not much of a fan of techno I did immensely enjoy the soundtrack of Wipeout HD.
The collection of 8 tracks is diverse and range from tracks with nice long straightaways and sweeping turns to more compact and technical tracks. Each track can also be run backward to add complexity to the game.
Difficulty can range from introductory to uber-difficult. Wipeout HD does feature a standard difficulty setting, Novice, Intermediate, etc. However, the primary means of differentiating the challenge comes in the race classes. The higher the race class the more difficult the enemy A.I. and the faster the ships travel.
As a bonus Wipeout HD also offers 2-player split screen and full online multi-player support. Given that Wipeout HD is only $20 I strongly urge any race fan to give Wipeout a spin around the track.
As a final note, Sony did release an optional DLC pack that adds more tracks and more ships.
