This isn’t about the updated version, but about the original 1986 album that I heard in 1994. While I liked Kenny Loggins “Danger Zone” and its loud rock guitars and Berlin”s “Take my Breath Away” (which Jessica Simpson remade in 2004–Jessica, I liked your version, but it’s no contest to Berlin’s original), the rest of the album is complete JUNK! It mostly sounds like a Madonna album to me, some of her fun dance pop. Did the people who made this album say “Okay, let’s copy some stuff or parts of Madonna’s True Blue album (which came out at around the same time in ‘86)and make an album out of it?” Marietta’s song sounds so much like Madonna’s Into The Groove from ‘85. It sold all those millions of albums the same year that Tom Cruise’s movie was a hit in ‘86. Yet a lot of this stuff isn’t that good. Only Kenny Loggins, Berlin and the Loverboy power ballad are the best songs. The other 7 songs from the original 10-song album from 1986 are just lousy. Even the Greene song and Cheap Trick song sound EXACTLY like Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone with the charged up rock guitars–too many similarities. Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine don’t sound good at all here with her song–her other songs are far better than this. And Kenny Loggins’ Playing With the Boys copies his ‘84 hit Footloose way too much. But the shoddy rock and the blatant copying of Madonna’s dance formula are all too obvious on this album. One of the worst soundtrack albums I’ve ever heard! They flew Air Force jets over this lame music in that movie?! Even Madonna wouldn’t have liked this album either!

Im suprised that you cannot get the Top Gun soundtrack music videos on VHS or DVD.
Like many people who love the movie and the music, I would have no hesitation in purchasing it. I havent seen the video clip for “Danger Zone” since 1988 when it was shown on MTV back to back with “Dreams” by Van Halen. In fact, I think the music videos would be a great inclusion on a special edition DVD of the Top Gun Movie.
If anyone knows if it is avaliable anywhere, drop me a line:
drynne@telstra.com I will be eternally grateful.

scientologist plays in! Cruise cocky smile, that only
brainwashed women like, is an average actor and the
deceased ‘Goose’ steals the show. Is that why HE HAD
to be KILLED off?! Great soundtrack, especially Cheap
Trick, with their last single done with Jon B Brant
on Bass before the record company forced him out…
[Jonny, We Hardly Knew Ye...]Great pics on the 45,
7″ single. Look for it on amazon or alaibris or in
your local vinyl shop while you can. The good old days
of Cheap Trick!

This is the first soundtrack I ever bought and I was immediately hooked! All the songs are great with the exception of Memories and Playing With The Boys(Remix).
